I've had 2 relationships in middle/high school and neither worked out too well. Is it ever really worth it since even if it works, going to college splits you up?

That's what I think. I didn't date in middle school and high school despite all my crushes and guys that I knew liked me, because college happens and most don't survive. Plus the dating pool is so much larger in college, it was very good for me to go in unrestrained by a high school/middle school boyfriend. This being said, I suppose if you could survive 4 years of high school if you went to different high schools after middle school, then maybe you'd have a shot. College also matures and changes people, so you come out different then when you came in.1

Yep, it's better than never dating even by the time you're 18.0
