  • To me, yes, to an extent. Political beliefs show your priorities and what you value, what you consider important. If my partner and I had conflicting political beliefs, it's likely that our outlook on things may be too different.

  • I dont mind different i welcome passionate respectful rational debates. I do mind fucked up political views. ex. sexist. racist. bigoted imperialist. fascist. violent.

    • anything discriminatory will expose shaky code of ethics , which entirely matters in a relationship.

  • I could never be with a conservative or I guess the American version is republican

    • No. Canadian Conservatives are American Democrats. American Republicans are much more right-wing than the Canadian Conservative Party.

    • @MasterofPlebs I guess so but I mean I don't think you guys have any group more left wing than democrats

    • We do... but they just don't have representation. https://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/List_of_political_parties_in_the_United_States

  • it depends on how passionate they each are about politics and how different their views are

  • They definitely do, I wouldn't date someone whose politics were wildly different from mine. But they also don't have to be identical; it depends on the issues we disagree on and why really

  • It matters, but not like your poll suggests. Not everyone has an issue of them voting for another party, but some of their beliefs can be deal breakers. Such as someone that wants a gun in the house to feel safe, and a person that is afraid of having a gun in their house.

  • I wouldn't want to date anyone that is extremely far to one side of the spectrum, but I'd much rather date a reactionary conservative than a radical left-wing socialist.

  • Rule one to relationships: Don't talk about politics or religion.

    • And I say that's rubbish. Religion and politics matter.

    • @MasterofPlebs Classic source of people arguing about nothing :P

    • Religion and politics do matter. It matters to me whether you care about the lives of Syrian and Iraqi children. If you don't, then you can burn in hell, I won't have anything to do with that.

  • Really depends on how far we differ. If she is an idealogue one way or another, that may be a problem. I'm fairly moderate, so someone that is extreme on one side or the other might be painful to deal with.

  • What difference would someone's political views make? Most people won't have the same views as me anyways.

  • Yup. I cannot possibly deal with a right-wing crazy. If they were a moderate conservative, then yes. Anything from that to the ultra left where I am at, I can accept. But not far-right antics, impossible.
