  • I view Dating as in you are in a relationship with someone and yes you are exclusive but it may or it may not lead to an engagement and eventually marriage.

    Courting, is: you are in a relationship but that relationship will lead to an engagement and ultimately marriage. I guess back in the day, people used the term courting because it lead to marriage and with it cementing one's status and wealth.

  • I think courting is the old-fashioned word, right when "wooing" was still used everyday. Also more poetic.

    Dating is the more modern word.
