I view Dating as in you are in a relationship with someone and yes you are exclusive but it may or it may not lead to an engagement and eventually marriage.
Courting, is: you are in a relationship but that relationship will lead to an engagement and ultimately marriage. I guess back in the day, people used the term courting because it lead to marriage and with it cementing one's status and wealth.
They're the same. Courting is like, Shakespeare language. Dating is modern language.
one is from the 14th century and one is from 21st century
Courting is more serious and it's generally aimed towards figuring out whether you want a commitment/life partnership.
I think courting is the old-fashioned word, right when "wooing" was still used everyday. Also more poetic.
Dating is the more modern word.
