There isn't any good music being made anymore these days. I like grunge/alternative music and all the new brands that are in that genre suck. But it's not just in rock, all the rap being made today too sucks ass.
Simple. Musicians can't make a living, so a major portion of time that would have gone to training instead goes into a different job. Additionally, music education/literary is extremely weak today because of both funding and cultural disdain for the arts, and most commercial music is produced by a handful of people who have a formula that's tied to economics rather than art.
This is just a cycle, the music from my youth is better than the music of today. Every generation has said something along those lines. It's not true, good music is being produced as you read this, but you probably will never hear it, as your exposure to today's music is purely through mass media. When we were kids our friends turned us on to rare and obscure stuff that became our favorites. No one is turning you on to that stuff now so you don't hear the good stuff.
You can trust the mainstream when it comes to music that's at least 20 years old. But newer stuff you'll have to discover on your own. That's still a lot of work, but thanks to the internet, it's easier today than it ever was before. Good music is still being made. Just don't expect to hear it on mainstream radio stations. Their listeners are mostly people who just want some background noise in their lives, not music lovers. That's why it takes them 20 years to figure out what's good music.
Yes, the new music has been kind of sucking lately, and they seem to just play the same 5 freakin songs all day on the radio.
there is it is just that it's so underground, so low profile, and the trash on the contrary are so many, that it's hard to tell it appart and discover it... . but it's also true that an artistic and quality degeneration exists nowadays... .
