Most underrated rock band?

I love rock, always have and always will, but there are bands out there that are completely undervalued.

I believe the one that sticks out is Stone Temple Pilots

  • i love the stone temple pilots but don't know if i'd say they are underrated. sadly due to their relatively low output compared to other bands of their era i think their small amount of work is acknowledged but their legacy is somewhat dwarfed in comparison to bands who were either bigger or more influential at the time (e. g. Nirvana or Alice in Chains) or bands who have had longevity (e. g. Red Hot Chili Peppers or Pearl Jam)

but please don't get me wrong. i love STP. I love their range of music (rock, blues, jazz, punk, pop, etc)

I just wish Scott Weiland had been able to keep his addiction in check back in the 90s. I imagine they would be as big as any of those 90s bands are today if he had

What Girls Said 2

  • Oooooh, I had no idea until @Redstang88 commented, but yes! I definitely agree that Dio was underrated (though I'd say he's more metal than rock).

    • Yeah, he's definitely metal, I generally lump rock and metal into one. Dio (singer, not band) was diverse enough I figured I'd call him a rocker.

  • Linkin Park for me

What Guys Said 7

  • I don't listen to a ton of rock music, but STP is definitely a favorite of mine. I think they're underrated in terms of how we view them today, but as a guy who got into them as a teenager during their heyday, I'd say that they got a good amount of love back then. I feel like rock music has all but disappeared the last ten years, at least from the mainstream scene. Like is anyone big making new music? Any time I hear a rock radio station, it's all stuff from like 20 years ago or more. Can't argue with the classics, but it seems strange that the genre has taken such a dive. I might not be in the right circles to know though, maybe there's still a scene, but the last new rock music I heard was like the mid-00s and it was stuff like Brand New and Taking Back Sunday, etc. I like that stuff and all, but where I live it's pretty much all hip hop and R&B if it's new music, which is usually my favorite genre, but it's sucked for about 10 years, or even 15-20 years now if I'm being strict about it. But yeah, anyway, STP is THE SHIT👍 Might fuck with some Dead And Bloated in the car, get jacked up for the day, haha🤘

  • STP is/was pretty well known though.

Metal is a subgenres of rock, and one of the best thrash metal bands I know is Tourniquet. But they're not very well known. They have some of the best guitar riffs and one of the best drummers I've ever heard. But, they'll never be known by many people.

  • I'd say Dio was really underrated, RJD was one of the best singers in the business, even well into his 60s.
The Tragically Hip is Canadian, and pretty popular here, but they never really caught one elsewhere, they're pretty good.

  • The Fixx man... especially in their homeland they were totally ignored... but fortunately American success saved 'em...

These guys kicked ass from their debut "Shuttered Room" (1982) till "Ink" (1991)... one song from each album...
