B&W movies can be just as good as color movies as long as they're made well. My favorite is The Third Man, which is also my favorite movie regardless of color/B&W. The story and visuals are really good.
I think my favorite color movie, strictly for the visuals, is Pitch Black. It's also helped by being very character-driven rather than strictly action.
Ridley Scott movies usually have interesting visuals. The Duellists was really good that way. Light and shadow are usually prominent features in film noir, and there's a lot of those. Color versions of noir movies aren't as common but a pretty good one is Brick, although it's good more for the writing than the visuals.
