Are military jackets ok to wear for non soliders? Do they look good with the right clothing?

My knowledge of fashion is poor hence the title. I saw a guy wearing a vintage looking military jacket with his casual clothes. I thought it look good. But I'm wondering... will people think I'm in the army? Maybe he was? I don't want to disrespect soldiers and have people think I'm one of those stolen valor scum.

Apologies if the link doesn't work. And I know this is probably a REALLY stupid question but I just want to get it confirmed before considering splashing out £40+... also let me know if they look good or not.

  • If you weren't in the military you shouldn't be wearing it. Thats just my opinion though.

  • So long as it's an empty and you're not acting like you're a soldier (when you're not), it should be fine. It's just a jacket (with a nice look and functional design).

Now, if you're applying insignia, really making it look like the jacket of an actual soldier, and parading your awesome "veteran" self with all "your brave deeds" and "glorious feats" of valor... Now, you've got a problem.

  • I love military inspired clothes in general, they make me feel like a badass by association.

  • I hate wearing mine, I have no idea why a civilian would want to wear one; meh, go for it.

    • I thought it was a style thing. If not then i won't. I don't like clothing that stands out.

    • No way, they are like wearing a trash bag. They just make you sweat, especially if you don't have a liner in them.

  • It's fine to wear military clothing if you're not a soldier, plus it looks nice too.

  • Yeah military camo and clothing is perfectly fine to wear if it's older issue gear also make sure that there are no rank or name patches on there anywhere other wise you can get in trouble for impersonating a soldier.

    So lets recap.

It's fine as long as there are no rank or insignia, patches and no name patches and it's not the current issue gear.

I personally own quite a few military gear items and clothing and I hav had no trouble yet.

  • You should never wear camo unless you are hunting, or actually in the armed forces. Casual camo is one of the worst looks there is. The far left jacket in that listing looks nice though.

  • Just buy what you want to wear and wear what you want to wear.

  • As long as you don't wear any false insignia, or have your name on it, I think it's ok.
