How comes energy drinks work on me more than coffee?

When coffee supposedly has more caffeine than an energy drink?

  • B vitamins in energy drinks assist the metabolism. In particular, B12.

In fact, here is a good tip:

If you drink too much alcohol and believe that you will get a hangover, then drink about quart of water (you may have to do it over a few hours) and take a B Super Complex vitamin. The water and B vitamins help your liver oxidize the alcohol more quickly. I haven't had a hangover in over 25 years since I learned this.

  • Energy drinks tend to contain a higher dose of caffeine than coffee does. They also have a lot of sugar (unless they use sugar substitutes instead) so that provides an energy boost in itself.

  • More sugar. Gives you a quicker fix.

Not good for you, though. Those ups and downs in blood sugar levels make you eat more, and leave you feeling flat after the buzz has worn off. So you need another fix...
