How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?

  • Probably because prior to the space race people did not travel as extensively by air as they do today. Modern jet aircraft were not introduced until the early '60s, so a trip across the country involved one or two stops! It wasn't until the mid 1960's that the Boeing 707 created nonstop flight across the country and to Europe . Back then traveling in an aircraft was a luxury, not as common as it is today. People 'dressed up' to go to the airport and get on a plane. Today people are being tossed off flights for clothes considered too risqué!

Then with increased and longer air travel people decided to pack more into their suitcases. So I'm assuming that's when suitcases got heavier and heavier until someone finally came up with the brilliant idea of putting wheels on suitcases.

This is my best guess why the lunar landings came before modern rolling suitcases. Just more people traveling and ways to make moving your house on wheels easier. 😄

  • Good point young man.
