You know that indestructible black box on planes. Why don't they just make the whole plane out of the same substance?

The plane wouldn't be able to fly.1
hahahahaha!!! RIGHT? they save so many lives that way.,,
im sure there's some science behind why they can't0
nice question! i always thought about this0
it probably costs a ton of money? I don't know. there has to be a good reason0
thats such a good point!0

It's too heavy.
it's too expensive.
But most importantly: it wouldn't make a difference.
People in plane crashes do not die because the plane is too weak. In fact, there have been several plane crashes (big and small ones) where the only reason certain people survived was because the wall of the plane was weak enough to break and the passengers were thrown out into a bush or a field. The reason people die in plane crashes is the immense kinetic force that their bodies get to feel as the plane goes from 400 mph to practically zero within a few seconds. So what would happen if a plane was built of the same material as black boxes is basically that all the passengers who happen to not wear their seat belts would be smashed against the walls of the plane so hard they would look like flies that you kill with a piece of wood or so. Chances of survival wouldn't be higher, they would much lower.2
For one it would it would be too heavy and second it would be as strong as the black box, take two pieces of metal that are the same thickness but one is longer and you will see that the longer piece of metal is easier to bend than the shorter piece of metal.2
it'd be too heavy0
That one is an oldie but Goldie0
Any material that heavy and dense wouldn't make for an airworthy vehicle since weight is important.0
