Did anyone else think '12 years a slave' was a terrible movie?

I honestly don't get the hype.

The characters had no depth. There was no explanation of any other character besides the main one. It was implied that he was close with the female slave in the movie but it didn't explain why.

I just hated it.

  • I had to read the book for my history class.
It started out slow but got much better.

I loved the part when he beat the shit out of one of his masters.

The book was rich with detailed pain.

I never saw the movie, but I'm not sure it would live up to the book

  • I believe it's originally a book. Look up a summary or something.

It focused on the main character because it's from his point of view. I loved it!

  • Simply answer this, are you white or black? Can you understand slavery? Are you too closed-minded for the movie? Just saying.
