The apartment that I just moved out of was burned down to the ground two weeks ago. I found a new place to live and moved in a month ago and paid rent on both places, leaving just my other two roommates there. Today, my apartment called me and said that everyone in my building (who were all displaced) will be getting $500 for clothes, supplies, etc. and that my check is there to pick up. All that was left in the apartment that was mine was my bike, a desk, fridge, and a box of other personal supplies. Should I take it?

Take it, they are getting reimbursement from their insurance company. you had to move out, and all of that costs money, it's just because it wasn't your fault, that's the nature of insurance.1

Yes. It's compensation for the lost possessions and stuff.0
