  • There wouldn't be any religious wars anymore and no one using fear to death strategies (''oh you'll go to hell if you don't believe in god'') for not beliving in it.

  • most people have an innate desire to find meaning in this world through some higher power
so bad things will still happen in this world with or without religion
there will just be some other excuse for it

What Guys Said 16

  • Without religion , the majority of the human population would lose hope , the world will descend into chaos for a few years , suicide rate will skyrocket , murder , pillaging and rape would be all over the news , society will collapse...

and then after a few years or two people will find a new purpose in life.
They start to understand that life has no intrinsic meaning , there is no grand plan , and it is for them to draw out their own destiny.
They start to understand that , there is no afterlife doesn't make life meaningless , it is that there's no afterlife that makes life the only thing that matters.

Society will be rebuilt from the ashes and the ruins.

A new era of reason and logic will rise and humanity will be propelled into an age after god. An age of progress. The Utopia will become a reality.

  • We would still be hunting with spears. See what no one wishes to acknowledge is that science could not exist without religion. Religion is the embodiement of the question, that is what is the meaning of existence. This lead to the questioning of everything. Eventually this lead to alchemy the idea that if we wish to understand god and ourselves we must first understand the world, this eventually lead to the alchemical method now known as the scientific method. Without religion science would not have come to existence and we would not have advanced as far as we did, without religion we would not have asked questions since that is what religion was, an attempt to explain that which was unexplainable or unexplainable at the time. The most ironic part about the misunderstanding of religion is this notion that it is the cause of wars not politics. Yet going back at which point was religion the cause of war? The current Iraq/afganistan wars where political in nature not religious, Desert storm was also political. Vietnam, Korean wars were political, so was WWI and WWII. The Spanish American war and the war of 1812, American civil war, American revolutionary war, every war of independence ever fought, the conquest of mexico by the Spanish, the various wars waged in africa by the British, every one of these was political. The crusades claimed religios purpose but it was nothing more then a power grab for the vatican. Same with all the wars waged by charlemane. Religion is no more responsible for war then science was responsible for the holocaust (with there extensive use/abuse of eugenics and evolutionary theory) So we would, in all honesty, be so far from where we are now. The big bang theory (hypothisis really) was pruposed by a catholic priest and physcist. The fact is religion is the scape goat and tool for those with ill intent or who are just ignorant. Science can be used with just as much malice, same with athieism. Look at the news, who is viewed as evil and bad and needs to be stomped out, the religous, or more specificly now a days muslims. Why? For the same reason when a politician starts a war while claiming it is to protect "freedom" or "our heritage" or "our way of life", hate is a very good way of unifing people. Sameness is also a very good unifing trait which is why religion was used as an excuse for political power struggles, by creating an "us" vs "them" mentality. The very same one that exists now, only its science/atheist vs religion this time.

  • worse. think about this: But know this, that in the last days+ critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power;+ and from these turn away. 6 From among these arise men who slyly work their way into households and captivate weak women loaded down with sins, led by various desires, 7 always learning and yet never able to come to an accurate knowledge of truth. all of this was predicted years ago. now, if out ancestors were not warned of these things, do you believe that any of would be hear today?

  • Personally I believe all religion is good, as they guide people to become better human beings, I feel it's painted badly because of the few who use it as an excuse or tool for persuasion or weapon to do harm, but in these cases that actually goes against the teachings of said religions. So no, I don't think it's going to be the worlds demise, I think that greed and ruthlessness will if anything, and religions by the way teach that those things are wrong.

  • Religion is just a scapegoat. People would just say why they are doing terrible attrocities instead of just saying "god wills it!" It would be no better or worse.

  • Take a look at atheistic and communist China, and the former Soviet Union. These places were atheist paradise.

Yet, people were, and are being butchered like animals. Starved to death, tortured by brutal, godless rulers.

The truth is that more people have died under godless dictators than just about anything else, in the tens of millions.

People like to think that their problems stem from people being "religious" but that is weak. If what someone else believes is the cause of your own misery you need to wake up.

    • Errr... Stalin killed people for political reasons, not religious ones. People act on what they do believe, not on what they do not.

    • Take a look at what Stalin believed. Atheism was his religion, and yes, atheism is a religion. He thought that if he eliminated all religion from his people then he could subjugate his people. I have a book, one of many written by Christians, hat details the religious persecution true believers faced.
