I think of World War Two because the Nazis took over Czechoslovakia.
The Czech Republic and the Slovakia used to form one nation called Czechoslovakia until they split and are each their own countries now, though I still refer to the Czech Republic as Czechoslovakia ( even though that is wrong ) but it just sounds incomplete to me when you just call it Czech. also My fathers side of the family comes from the actual Czechoslovakia country somewhere in the Carpathian mountains when the two separate countries were still together.
It being a part of former Czechoslovakia, the split being peaceful and the capital of Slovakia is Bratislava.
