Examples of masculine fragrance notes for a character?

I'm writing a story, and the second main protagonist has a distinct scent that his wife loves. All I can come up with so far, is that his particular cologne has vanilla (or honey) and leather - a dark but sweet scent. I don't know what the third note could be, since the wife's perfume smells of jasmine, strawberries, and caramel.

Should I write there's some type of fruit accord, like hints of apple or grapefruit, or something such as bergamot or woody notes like oak or pine?

  • That is an... of collection of scents. If you want to make it sound masculine use more masculine words. Vanilla and fruit I usually classify as feminine words.
