I lied to my therapist about my relationship status. How do I correct it?

I have depression and anxiety. Over the last several months I've been seeing a mental health nurse to help me talk through my issues. While talking with her on one occasion, I've told her that I have a boyfriend and we live together and that he makes me happy, but in actual fact, I live alone and don't have a boyfriend. I feel bad about making up this story and want to make it right. How do I go about telling her the truth?

  • Just tell her. Telling that lie is part of you. . . who you are right now. She will try to figure out why a young woman in counseling would feel the need to lie about her relationship status.
