  • Nope clone troopers are clones where as storm troopers are people who were taken when they were babies and raised to be soldiers of whomever they're serving (The First Order).

  • Yes and No.
After Order 66 the then Clone troopers became the first Storm Troopers, as you'll see in Episode III. They were apart of the 501st legion. The rest of the clone army became stormtroopers as well.
BUT, Clones age at twice the rate of regular humans and the newly formed Empire needed more Stormtroopers. Jango Fett was no longer around to work as an original DNA copy. Making Clones of clones will just lead to more and more mistakes and defects (the Empire did this a little).
So the Empire went to Kamino to take over their cloning facilities where they still had the original DNA of Jango, but SURPRISE! Clone "Rebellion"! The Kaminoans created their own private army of clones to protect against attack. It failed and the cloning facilities were shutdown. The Empire then started making Stormtroopers from multiple cloning facilities with multiple DNA donors. The Empire also accepted enlistees, but getting in was very difficult. There were even women Stormtroopers that made it! However, they were a minority with about 3 women per 8000 men.

So yes the original clone troopers became stormtroopers, but it changed after that.

What Guys Said 9

  • For a time. Clone troopers aged twice as fast as normal humans, and were also susceptible to various attacks tailored to genetically identical attacks, as well as having troubles with loyalty to the empire.
The clones were soon retired by the Empire, and replaced with actual recruits and conscripts.
In Rebels, the new series, we see some of the clones from the Clone Wars movie and tv show, and they go into how they were retired by the empire.
Long story short, the storm troopers of the empire were recruits and conscripts, and apparently the storm troopers of the first order are mostly children conscripted at a young age.

  • Nope. The clones aged badly and died out. They started recruiting for Storm Troopers.

Though in the EU Sidious would clone himself to live longer.

  • No clone troops died during the Clone Wars. Stormtroopers were hired hands, or in the new movie raised and indoctrinated.

  • The Clone troopers that were left over from order 66 became storm troopers, and for a while Darth Sidius kept using the clones of Jango Fett, but then eventually because of the downsides of the clones he started recruting humans to Join the Ranks of Storm Troopers, then eventually he just stopped using clones, and the clones that were left died

  • In between 3 and 4, they stopped using clones because the colony that made them were using it against the empire. That's when they started recruiting ordinary people; Vaders personal guard is still clones though.

  • At first yes but in 4 5 6 no. They were recruited just like the storm troopers of New Order

  • The clones were actual clones, but the storm troopers are actually not clones.

  • Yes, a lot of people are saying no but they definitely did. The thing is, however, obviously soldiers die off, and because the Empire lost control over the Kaminoans and their advanced cloning facilities, they were unable to replace lost soldiers in battle with other clones of equal quality. Of course the Empire attempted to clone more units, but since they didn't have the expertise or technology of the Kaminoans the clones werent nearly as high quality. Even as they were trying to clone more soldiers, there was still demand for troops, however, because of all the wars and uprisings going on throughout the galaxy, and since cloning wasn't going so well, the Empire had to start recruiting troops from their holdings to keep up with demand. For every clone that died, it would be replaced by a conscripted soldier taken from the Empire. That meant that as the wars drug on many thousands of clones continued to die on the battlefield not to be replaced by other clones. This meant that the number of clones in service for the empire dwindled, and by the time of Return of the Jedi it was highly likely that only a minority of the military was made up of clones. Most of the old sergeants and field officers were likely clones, and possibly some of the high up commanders you see walking around on the capital ships, but the majority of the newer recruits were regular humans. To say storm troopers are not clones is wrong, because a sizable minority of the storm troopers as late as Return of the Jedi would have been clones, a smaller amount would have been the original clone troopers, while other clones would be from the various other attempts by the empire to make a clone army. As you can imagine though, between the destruction of 2 death stars, and the loss of most of the imperial fleet at the battle of Endor, any remaining clones were probably killed by then. By the time Episode VII occurs there are probably only a handful of original clone troopers remaining most of whom would be old war veterans who wouldn't really be fighting on the front lines. You may find an admiral or two in the first order that was a clone trooper, but for the most part they are no more. In Episode VII they do make mention of using cloned soldiers verses training them from birth (like Finn, who is clearly not a clone), but they are almost definitely referring to cloning new soldiers rather then using the old clone troopers who are too old and few to really make a difference.
