Most stereotypes are a perfect example, you get you're self worth from believing you are better at something then other people are. And there are plenty of examples of one building themselves up by tearing another down.
But then that's not actual self-worth because the belief is a pure delusion. You cannot build self-esteem off of delusions; for instance knowing that someone else failed the test you got a D on doesn't actually make you feel that much better and definitely not for a prolonged amount of time. Licking your wounds and making excuses to come out of pity (temporarily) isn't real self-esteem.Self-esteem is built through active involvement in personal growth not passive acknowledgement of others failures.
