Want to learn to use a skateboard, but can you help me with some skateboarding info?

I found normal skateboards and mini cruisers. At first you'd think: mini cruisers are for children, but I've seen grown up people using mini cruisers...
so what's the difference? I don't want to do tricks, I just want to learn to use it, keep balance, learn to push correctly... to simply ride it...
Also in regards to normal skateboards there are difference sizes. Only seen 7.7 and 8 so far. What does the size stand for & mean, which should I go for in my situation? (never stepped on a skateboard before)

  • you really should just walk into your local board shop and ask questions. they're hella insightful and can even help you find the board that's just right for you after talking to you.
