How do you pronounce syrup?

A friend of mine and I were at the movie theater about to go see Captain America Civil War (great movie btw). While we were talking he said syrup but he pronounced it as see-rup. I personally pronounce it as sir-up. I thought it was really weird.

How do you pronounce it?
Also where are you from? I want to see if it's a regional dialect since I've always spoken more like an American than a Canadian and my friend was born in Canada. I've only recently started transitioning to Canadian spelling, although I still spell meter and kilometer the American way as opposed to the Canadian metre and kilometre.

  • Sir-rup, accent on the first syllable. Only a turnip-pickin' mongoloid would say see-rup!
