Finish the Sentence, If I could solve the worlds problems I'd probably start with____?

I was inspired by a line in this song.

Mary Alice quit askin' why I do the things I do
I ain't sayin' that she likes it, but what else I'm gonna do?
If I could solve the world's problems I'd probably start with hers and mine.

Me, I'd probably start with getting people access to mental healthcare they need.

What Girls Said 19

  • I think the mental health care problem is huge and I think it definitely needs to be addressed. It is probably the root of a lot of issues we have in society, and getting people to the proper outlets would help prevent a lot of issues. Unfortunately, society has the feeling that it's an individual's responsibility to seek out help. But what if they are unsure even where to start? And what if the places they do turn to have little or no resources for them, or don't even know about resources that are available?

I think making it easier for people to access resources would be a major problem that I would love to fix!

... but would that just lead to a re-definition of mental illness?
(since mental illness is rarely, if ever, absolute -- it's pretty much conceived in terms of deviation from "normal")

I think if you could obliterate mental illness, what used to be the borderline cases ("borderline" as in "on the edge", not BPD) would just become the new standard of what constitutes mental illness.
Worst case, you might even end up with an environment that's less tolerant of those differences overall (since the differences themselves would be smaller -- and BIG differences would be nonexistent).

Just food for thought. I mean, on the surface of course I like the idea -- but I always like to explore second-order effects of theoretical changes like these (:
