A Shihpoo can work for you. They just need to be groomed once in a while depending on their needs and your needs, are very small, and is active and love your attention, but can be alone as well depending on their personality. Or you can just shave them if your allergic to their fur. Their hair takes a long while to grow back.
I work in a vet clinic, so we get these kind of questions all the time. All dogs require at least some love and attention, and if you do decide to adopt please don't forget about the little stuff, nail trims when needed, bathing and health stuff. As these can turn into larger issues later if you don't take care of that.
However having said that; smaller breeds with short fur are fairly low maintenance. Such as a Doxin or a chihuahua. The longer haired breeds are much more maintenance as they require regular grooming
