How do you decide when to end a relationship?

Ending a relationship, I think is a serious decision to make.

I think all conflicts have a way to be resolved. You just need to look hard and fin the way towards a resolution. However sometimes the resolution is braking up the relationship. But you need to look for it and come to the conclusion that there is no other way.

It's best if both partners are engaged in looking for the sollution and then agree that it is to break up.

However some times only one is looking and the other is secretly enjoing the conflict (perhaps subconsciously). Then the active one should initiate the breakup.

There's also an internal conflict, that's associated with the external. I think it's best to resolve the inner one first before making the decision to break up. Otherwise the inner conflict might stay with you long after the break up.

But the pain will lead you to having no choice but to work on that inner conflict. So I guess it doesn't really matter if you choose to break up in the end as far as your personal growth is conserned. But you grow faster when you are together and actively engaged in the emotional processes of conflict and resolution.

I've had to do that twice by decision and one just fizzled. I was not good at ending.

It's hard for people to change, to adapt... maybe at this age, or maybe all ages is true. Who wants to change... and why would they change unless they absolutely have to, or they recognize something and want to change. I lost a job and my emotional health in one breakup (correlated because of my failing brain due to stress). And I went to the hospital on another due to stress. Emotional stress directed at me is something I hadn't learned to handle so well because of childhood emotional stress, and so I want a person who can moderate their emotions... but I pick/accept ones who are not emotionally stable. Thus... I am the cause of my problems... not them!

When the same problems come up and I cannot tolerate them, and it isn't going to go forward to commitment, then I end it. In both cases, I had multiple counselor discussions... before marriage... never was a marriage.

I usually ended relationships when I realized that she wasn't the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, even if I still liked her. Almost all of my sex partners were girlfriends. I wasn't a hookup kinda guy. And I never cheated when I was with them. But I moved on from several relationships. It seemed like a waste of time to stay in a relationship that had no future.

Almost said "D" until I finished the list and found "G". Yes, there will ALWAYS be differences- it is how they are handled that will make or break the relationship. Since relationship is defined as "A particular type of connection existing between people related to or having dealings with each other", a good relationship is had when those dealings can be dealt with in a positive- win-win- manner. If they can't then consider ending the relationship.

Hard to say. Obviously cheating or abuse or neglect is a no brainer. But carrying on a relationship when you've no intention of getting serious or just for sex or for half the rent etc is pretty shitty. It's coming up to the holiday season or as some call it boyfriend season because many women like to have a guy around at this time so they aren't alone at family gatherings or so they get presents.

If your being abused or put down, its normal to argue it's not normal to hit someone especially someone you claim to care for. Even that is hard because I know what it's like when your in the mind state that you deserve it because it's your fault she's acting that way, and can be hard to think after putting in so much effort your relationship became that let alone the feeling you get knowing how far it's gone

I end the relationship whenever I feel way too much pressure. When I realize that I’d rather not have a future with that individual. There is no such thing as, “lovers don’t quit.” If I feel too much pressure and if that one relationship is not good for me, I do end it and I did. I’m a calm guy and she was quick tempered, immature etc.
