How Do You Heal From Trust Issues and Betrayal?

My ex and I broke up about 5 months ago (not that he matters at all) but the emotional damage is still there and I am finding it very hard to connect to people emotionally, including other guys and friends.

I'm constantly avoiding interaction out of my fear of being hurt. And I feel like in my relationships I'm pouring out of an empty cup.

I am adamant on fixing this and I am trying my best to 'love myself', through working hard in my career, doing good things for others and even physically (exercising, dressing well etc). I really just miss being a normal, happy, interactive person.

But how can I truly overcome that fear and live my life?

I'm sure some of you have been through some tough break-ups so anything that got you through would be appreciated!
