So today I decided to go to our place to collect my things when he wasn't home

He threw all my clothes on the floor

He's a dick. You made the right choice. I wouldn't even do that to a guy that didn't care about his stuff, and it's extra mean to do it to a girl's things. That's definitely grounds for no possible getting back together, in case you need them.
