My guess would be he does t want you to get bulky or is worried the trainer would be a male. But you don't need a trainer because you aren't overweight. Get thee to yoga!
Doing intermediate level yoga classes focusing on tone twice a week will give you more than enough tone. I had to buy new pants because my butt wasn't flat anymore when I first started. The only thing I had t add to it was lifting some arm weights so I could get enough strength to do inverted poses.
