Depends on the context i would think. If a guy is whining about the holiday, like bitching about hallmark holidays that are money grabs and how stupid they are.. she might be saying it in a "whatever" kind of way. If the guys going through financial shit she prob means it and doesn't want to make him feel obligated when he can't afford it. Or, maybe she's trying to be polite and doesn't want to look grubby wanting a gift, but deep down wants one. Who knows haha I would only say that if I knew a guy was struggling and couldn't afford it, I wouldn't want to put pressure on him. Otherwise I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it. I think nullifying a gift doesn't mean you nullify the holiday. Like if it's her birthday and she says no gift, she expects a card and a happy birthday.0
