Sounds like love what he feels so why he doesn't tell me he loves me?

My boyfriend of almost a year says everything that sounds like love. He tells me that he got hit with a Cupid's arrow, that I make him feel happy and like he has never felt before, that he gets butterflies every time he think of me.
He says he's just nuts about me and that he can't stop thinking about me.
To me all of that sounds like love. When I feel like that, I know it's love.
So why doesn't he say he loves me but instead he says all these other things?

  • Some people have a hangup about those three words. My father in law has *never* told his wife and kids he loves them. It's how he was raised.

Also, guys will advise one another to not say "I love you" because she'll expect a proposal or some other freedom-robbing commitment. "Dude, say 'I really care about you,' but never 'I love you'." I've gotten that advice before. What can I say? Sometimes we're dumb.
