If you're getting paid for working at a restaurant, why do waiters expect tips from customers? It's the job of the employers to pay their employees, not the customers. If you think, it's because of the minimum wage, don't work at a restaurant if you're going to get mad when customers don't tip you. You can expect some tips if you provide exceptional service but you're not entitled to compulsory tipping. I personally think it's stupid. It's an American thing. No one else in the world does that.
