How Can I Stop "Putting All My Eggs In One Basket"?

Often times when I meet a girl I like, I get attached. Or rather, I become interested in the "idea of them", not the person themselves. By doing this, I unintentionally, and unknowingly (at the time) try to change the person into what I want them to be, and not appreciate just who they are. I don't mean to do this, but it's single handedly my biggest downfall in terms of dating. I put all my eggs in one basket so to speak, when I should be diversifying. I just hate having to play games, it doesn't make any sense. I like straight forward, to the point. I'm not desperate, or clingy. I just want to find someone who makes sense.
