Is there any way to turn a stale conversation into an interesting one?

How do you get someone to be more talkative and ask more questions so you're not the only one asking? Is it even worth trying to make an effort to talk to a person like that?

  • You can tell when someone doesn't want to talk. It's not worth keeping alive if the person doesn't want to talk or doesn't like you. Most people are about business. They aren't interested in talking. The only way to know is to ask them, "Do you want to talk?" If it's through text. If in person you can just read social cues and if they give a quick reply or they look bored... yeah they don't want to talk to you lol but if they look interested or they are contributing a little to the conversation then I see that as they want to talk but don't know what to say.

  • A lot of the time when we want to keep someone’s attention, we tend to talk really fast, but this communicates neediness and nervousness subconsciously. A well-placed pause can create tension that makes your words have more gravitas.

  • It's hard to break the ice with a shy person. Some people don't like talking and are not outgoing. I give up after a while.
