  • Many young people lack confidence in their ability to care for themselves and they would prefer a system of government in which the government provides for ll of a citizens basic needs. This is called socialism. On the surface, it sounds appealing, but it requires a very high rate of taxation (which may not matter to you when you are young and not earning much money.) It also creates a dependence on the government which takes away individual liberties, and it creates a very powerful government which is prone to corruption.

The alternative is to reject the doctrine of parens patriae, insist on the maximum amount of individual liberties, and minimize the power of government in our lives. Many people reject socialistic ideas as they get older and more confident in their ability to care for themselves.

  • I think freedom is great, HOWEVER their is such a thing as responsibility and that is what people are trying to avoid. For instance you have these people who keep demanding that they be allowed to sleep around without consequence, now they have the freedom to do so and no one should ever take that freedom away from them HOWEVER what they are trying to do is force others to give up their freedom to look down on the behavior and that's what makes this wrong. Their actions have consequences, they are free to make the action, they are not free to avoid the consequence no matter how unpleasant it may be. So freedom applies to all people not just you (which is one of the issues of today) and with freedom comes responsibility (which is the other thing they try to avoid). Without that people are just bratty spoiled children and no society or relationship can survive if its members behave that way.

  • I wouldn't exactly say that. I think people are seeking to get too much out of too little put in, and that many are now feeling they are owed things that they haven't earned.

No such thing as too much freedom. You should be able to take care of yourself with zero outside assistance, that's what absolute freedom is.

  • What freedom? The one to irresponsibly do whatever crosses one's mind, or the freedom to (lastingly) live a self-chosen way of life (?). I see too much of one, and not enough of the other option.

    • You can't have one without the other, so the only thing you can do is trust that the benefits of allowing the latter outweigh the detriments of also allowing the former.

    • @ShortCircuit - Good point. Let's hope that ''the former'' does not get out of control.

  • No. There is no such thing as "too much freedom" so long as the freedom we are allotted falls short of imposing on the freedom of others.

  • We have no freedom, only Modern day slavery. Majority of people, if not all of us, live the way we've been programmed to live since birth.

  • There's no such thing as too much freedom unless you're hurting others and then it's not called a freedom

  • People should always pursue freedom. It is common sense that is lacking at the moment.

    • Such as open relationships lol. Whatever you see as too much, wherever you draw the line tbh

    • If it's something like open relationships, there should be a lot of freedom as long as it communicated between the two parties. If they draw the line at sex, then okay.

  • How can you define freedom? I guess it changes
