It is silly to play games. If you are interested in that person you should show it and message when you feel like it. If someone is going to be scared off because they think it's too soon is not someone that you can count on for a long term relationship. They still have some growing and maturing to do. Life is short and if they are the one why would anyone postpone the opportunity to communicate and spending time with them. Doing things that aren't authentic to you will only cause issues later in in the relationship when the real you shows up

To me, it depends who is it, and what is it, of course I always read first and I respond accordingly, and this can be instant or it might require a thought, or two. It's always different people, different moments and different situations.

by the way, for polls it would be a good idea to add the "Other (and please elaborate)" as a last option to choose.

I adjust to whom I am chatting with. If they take time to answer I sometimes do too. If they want to chit chat I do that when I have time. Answering fast does not need to be negative, but someone who cannot wait for an answer and ask quickly for a reply, when it is just chatting and not urgent, are very annoying to me.
And also if someone always answers even when they are at an event or so, is a bad sign for me. I like that people are present when we are together and not always aware of their phone.

I don't text. I have noticed that the mania for sending and receiving text messages results in an incredible amount of useless drivel flying between phones. If I have something of actual value to communicate, I'll respect the intended recipient by calling them.

It depends. If I'm not busy at the moment I respond right away. If I am busy I wait until I am not. It also depends on content, if it is a serious message or a question I have to think about; I wait a bit, think about it, then respond. But I hardly ever do not respond, unless it seemed like it was the end of the conversation.

If I don't text back immediately then it's probably because of these reasons:

I became preoccupied by something else for a moment.

I don't feel like talking.

I'm asleep.

It's case dependant no, if you've been asked something that you need time to think about a bit of a delay feels okay. Take your time if you feel the "need" to but artificially taking time seems a little odd.
