My son became president of FIJI house at a large state school and it changed his life. We babied him as a kid and for the first time he had major responsibilities where we couldn't bail him out. He was responsible for 60-70 guys and he stepped up to it. A turning point.
@Wally48 The Fiji house was next to my house in college. They were a good bunch at my school. Fraternities never get press coverage when they do good things, like my guys raising $106,000 for charity last year. They are gentlemen! I have more confidence in the younger generation that do most of my contemporaries because I have worked with them directly and I see the leaders developing.
Olderandwiser, you are my idol!!!
Being idolized is flattering but being online friends would be good, too.
I'm your friend! I always MHO you!! (but i'm also always on anon :( )
Have you followed me? Have I followed you?
I understand that you want to maintain some anonymity online but I would like to be able to associate a username with this conversation. Can you message me?
I'm so happy you shared your opinion! That's honestly exactly what i'd expect - like anything, there are good and bad ones. What kind of school (private, state school, region) did you go to if you don't mind my asking?
I think it’s considered a public research university. So we’re a public school but the vast majority of people here are STEM. We’re also pretty integrated with the surrounding city so most people don’t need Greek life to be social so all the organizations are almost purely friendship based.
Oh it’s also a state school and in alabama
Sounds amazing! The South honestly sounds more fun
Parts of the south are fun. Other parts not so much.
I'm assuming your knowledge on Greek life is limited to blockbuster movies... lol
Eh no. That's really what happens in the Netherlands with fraternity.I don't really know what happens in the USA.
Oh ok! my bad i thought you didn't have that kinda thing there
Yeah we also have the hazing and people die from that shit sometimes or will be scarred for life. I don't like the hierarchy from those groups.

i feel like you watched 1 too many mid 2000s cheap summer movies!
@Other_Tommy_Wiseau I don't watch movies because I hate the ZOG and am not interested in ZOG media and entertainment.
@Other_Tommy_Wiseau Hate them, too.
Oh no... not this cultural appropriation bullshit again...
I agree that it's bullshit in general... but if you're one of those people that thinks a white men wearing a HEADDRESS is cultural appropriation, but you don't see how a BLACK FRATERNITY is cultural appropriation, too... then you're a HYPOCRITE.
yeah thats the big stereotype
Seems to be true tho
Not really no
So your saying sorority girls are NOT like that
not gonna give you thumbs down but you do sound a little silly. it's not like making frats and srats illegal would stop young kids from drinking..
All I'm saying is I do not thong students should be allowed to drink in school run fraternities. They should be bound by the same non alcoholism laws as the campus.
And maybe we could feed all Africa and have world peace! :D
@asker Africa where I lived for 19 years is not really a poor place okay. And the reason why it seems like it is because people dont know how to manage and use resources available and many leaders are corrupt and dont know how to earn respect. So Africa suffer for lack of good ruling and guidance.
Africa provide the resources used here in the US and around the whole world including Asia. But whatever happens to the profit we dont know.
im not sure if you didn't get my joke or if you're being extremely sarcastic hahah
And I think students should stay focus on their origianl purpose of going to college which to learn and complete and not be distracted by nonsense clubs or groups which turns us antisocial instead of social.
Grouping and labelling is the one problem this world face. We always want to put people in boxes with labels on them. We now have names for everything and labels for them too.
I think I get your joke, but we have to try either which way and we will succeed
To some extent
So what you are saying is you couldn't get in one?
@Paige90 Good one.. I fell off my chair laughing...
@paige90 hahahahaha same thought here
Lmao! 🙄 this here further proves my point. Only a soror sister would say some shit like. And then you have a co-signing anon, that can't say speak up like dear Paige90. I can at least respect her bitchiness... she's not afraid to speak her mind. Not that you'd understand but I had better things to do at school.
Calm down.. you are making a mountain out of nothing..
that sounds perfect!
Yeah it was a good group people were not judged on superficial things. We had many different races and religions represented. I think we were there only non-black fraternity to have a black president my sophomore year. There was way too much drinking, but it was college.
That's what i'm looking for tbh. the school im at has a very dry campus and on top of that making connections and having a social life is nearly impossible if you aren't greek. Was the school you attended to big or on the smaller side?
Penn State, so very big
To the asker you agree right?
I don't really have much to say on that because I'm not looking for dick
Why are you asking about frats then?
You're not making a lot of sense here
Hahahah thats exactly how I feel
oh wow you're so strong lol
Yes I am. Having these advantages might open the door and make it easier for job opportunities, but there are other ways to get those jobs. And any company who looks at these types of qualities for hiring is no company I would want to work for.
you sound kinda pathetic but you go girl!
Says the anonymous 18-24 female.
I think most people would agree that walling yourself off from other people and any external criticism is a totally strong and not insecure thing to do.You want to do your own thing, cool no one's stopping you. But why the hate for fraternities? You decide how you wanna live your life and you think you are exempt from criticism, but when other people who are unrelated to you decide to do something different all of a sudden they are weak and misguided? It sounds like you do care what other people think and you are bitter that they aren't putting you on a pedestal.
@Map4Territory My problem with them is not so much their ideologies but how they treat other people. They treat others who are not in their group like a pile of mud. Just look at how they tell other to haze just to get into their group. It's ironic your telling me that I have dogmatic views yet these fraternities are the ones who do. I don't have a problem with people who have different views than me. I have a problem with people who treat others who are socially inferior to them like a piece of trash. I've gotten used to living and tolerating others with completely different styles I do. My mom and dad are Muslim and I am an atheist. As far as the pedestal thing I have never been put on one before. It would be weird for me to expect others to put me on one when it has never happened to me. It's just hard to make friends because its so difficult to weave out through the stupid ones first.
You complain that fraternities treat others poorly yet you come on this site and call thousands of people you've never met weak and stupid.I never criticized you for being dogmatic, though you do keep bringing up the "ideology" of fraternities. What do you think that ideology is?In my experience fraternities don't treat others poorly as much as simply act apathetic towards others and that is what makes people angry. People are entitled and expect special treatment even if they've done nothing to deserve it. They want to be able to say, "I'm special and independant, but you people in fraternity are not allowed to be, you have to constantly acknowledge me and base your actions on my own well being". People get so offended that they aren't let into a party, yet if they were hosting a party and dozens of strangers were to arrive at their home they would almost certainly turn them away.
@Map4Territory, I couldn't have said it better :)
I'm latina and i'm not planning on joining a latina sorority tho
I'm not planning on joining a black fraternity but I have to be careful, there's discrimination
Ohh definitely. I'm worried ab that too
It sucks man to be in 2017 and still black people get discriminated against wtf :( it makes me upset
Mainly in the south east. I go to Florida State
I live in Australia. I am dark skinned not black but I get made fun a lot over my heavy accent as I am not a native English speaker. So Its not only in Florida unfortunately. Stay strong man ❤try to be around better people who appreciate you as a human being and not around idiots who judge you over your looks, skin color... etc
Girl, I've had multiple accounts on this site over the years and I just wanted to say... you look bomb, and you clearly worked hard to get to where you are. Kudos!
@thisismynamehoe thank you so much!!!
OMG Charismatic you look amazing!!! I've been around here for a few years too and hadn't seen your profile in a while
Asker, right? Badass.
Thank you guys, I definitely appreciate your kind words!!! ❤
EXACTLY. They say they built "men of character". They're men of character are cocky jerks.
One guy in fraternity made a girl cry because he was naking fun of her fiancé and calling him a loser to her face
Sorry my spelling is off I'm super baked right now lol
Yeah that kinda threw me off a bit... and mine isn't either, but nightlife/social life is completely dead outside of greek life so im considering joining a srat
holy shit... that Chi Omega pic that advertises this question on the home page is the Chi Omega at the school I was at lmfaooo
Haha university of iowa?
Lmfao yeah 😂
I was in Pi Kappa Alpha at Missouri S&T.
@mark098 I was a Pike at Emory.
@OlderAndWiser And I'm very proud of it. We are the Gold Standard of the Greek system.OlderAndWiser, I truly believe that,
sorority is a social club for females, typically at a college or university, where the girls call each other "sisters," and do activities together and fraternity is for boys
Ugh i hate the idea. Those sound like clans.
I'm either not fond of it
