Every type of books. But crime or psychological fiction would be great!
Psychological fiction.OK, I think I have two good books for you.First is "The Power" by English writer Naomi Alderman which is a world-wide best-seller.Another is "The Fortress" by Australian writer S. A. Jones. It just came out in the USA, but has been out for 2 years. In both of these books, males are forced to deal with transitioning to living in matriarchal societies. In "The Power", the whole world changes over the course of 10 years as women all over the world gain an ability to deliver a potentially lethal electric shock (like an electric eel). Males do not have this ability. So, the power dynamic between men and women changes over time.In "The Fortress", a man, Jonathan, who has considerable "toxic masculinity" has his pregnant wife is leaving him because of his behavior. To get back together, she suggests he goes to The Fortress for a year to reflect on his behavior and to get an attitude adjustment. The Fortress is the name of a walled community where the Vaik live. The Vaik are a matriarchal society over 1000 years old, not unlike the Amazons. The Vaik have an understanding with the people in the nearby city where Jonathan lives regarding males. So, to save his marriage and so he can be a good father to his as-yet unborn baby, Jonathan decides to be a supplicant for a year at The Fortress. There, he will have to live essentially as a slave according to the rules of the Vaik. After one year, he will be returned to city and his family.
Wow, The Fortress seems really interesting to me. Thank you very much for explaining it!! You typed the synopsis, really appreciate that!
"The Power" is actually the better book for a lot of reasons including the quality of writing, but, depending on the kind things that interest you, "The Fortress" can definitely be the better book.
I just finished The Fortress. Let me know if you have any questions.I am a bit haunted by this book just like I was with The Power.
