Who is more likely to pick what career they actually "want" rather than what they "have to", Men or Women?

Anonymous
Wanting to do something is different from having to do something.
I ask this question because, in most situations (especially where I live), men are generally seen as the one who has to do the jobs that bring in the most money in to the family regardless of the kind of work, which may allow the women to do what she wants to rather than what she has to do.
Of course there are exceptions like in situations where the family is struggling and both do what they have to instead of what they want, or where the woman is also career driven and the need to be able to be independent without a man.

Please what is your situation?
Drop a story if possible.
I'm writing a paper in which I might use opinions left here. Thanks.
