Workload at university in Singapore?

I'm going to study in Singapore and I heard that they typically give you a huge amount of work to do at home, more than is normal in European or American universities. Of course I would also like to see the country a little bit and maybe even one or two of the neighbouring countries (I don't have much money, but I hope it's still possible).
So have any of you studied there and could say something about the weekly workload that I should expect?
