I think it's important for socialising to mix the genders in that environment when you reach the age to go to college. Otherwise, coming out of college, you might be fairly old and never really mixed with the opposite sex, which I'm not sure is the best outcome
That is a valid point. However, I am just of the opposite opinion as I have always been in a mixed scholar environment and had to endure the constant sexual harassment by boys and that is not conductive to a positive development.I would much rather be with my own gender and not have to be subjected to double meaning jokes, harassment and other sexual attempts. That impacts on the studies if your mind is diverted by boys (or girls).
I totally get your point as well. And that's awful that you had such a bad experience with harassment. I know from my own experience, and from friends who have also gone to single sex schools, that bullying and harassment is just as present in those environments, though. Overall, I think it's a good thing for during younger years. But for college and university, I consider these to be more 'adult' environments, where mixing should be expected. And my mind was still diverted at school, but just by boys lol
