Thank you so much! That was very helpful... I'm considered a "good artist" by many, but I'm not incredibly good. For the record, I posted some of my art on here. You can check it out and see what you think
Yeah lemme check ill tell you what i think definitely. by the way happy to help. I get stuck like this from time to time its usual.
I checked your art. I noticed that you wanted to be an animator, thats great. You seem to have an issue with lines and composition. You have shading down, no need to worry about shading and by an extention line weight, but in some to most i saw, the lines aren't very confident. So same as that if I were you id try to perfect the lines and composition first. You need to work on your propositions as well, the face had the details in the right position but wrong proportions. As a study, id suggest trying to copy and draw famous cartoons as a step, Tom and Jerry, Ben10, those sorts and try looking up comics od DC and or Marvel and try copying those works. If thats not up your alley, id suggest Japanese medium more, anime. Dragon ball, Death Note, One piece, iconic animation styles all within the same genre, try those to get your tastes down.Trying and copying various types of media will help you build your own "style" of drawing as well.I can't help but notice, the second picture, was that face Light Yagami from DeathNote? Or is that me just seeing that style way too close to anime than i should be?Anyhow, your are without a doubt good enough and i can see why you'd be stuck, so same as before try out the lines and composition workouts and try copying to figure out your own style. You'll most definitely break your block soon. All the best!
Thank you. That was some helpful advice... I usually have a problem with shading, but I shall do some line exercises on top of that. I'm only 21 and I still have a lot of time to improve and to be my craft. Art is fun and all, but when you see several other artist who crank out a multitude of amazing works, it just puts you down. But someday, i hope I reach up or past my potential
Never worry of those silly things like comparing yourself to others doling out whatever they can. Perfect your own art, whenever that may happen let it happen then, im absolutely sure its soon but anyhow keep working. If you really do wanna start comparing, i suggest you go for the big guns, really really top tiers and instead of seeing your flaws and what you haven't done realize that you have that much more room to grow and that in itself is a step forward too.Im 22 myself, and i know for a fact how much i worked hard and for how long i dropped everything else so as to focus.Ill help you anytime no worries.
I really appreciate it... I know I'm not alone here
What about other tips?
I am not a drawer myself but if someone posts an image I give them constructive feedback. That is what I was expecting to do when I clicked on the question
