The Consolation of Philosophy by Boethius. This is a classical book written just as Rome turned from a Republic into an Empire. Boethius broke the law trying to save the Republic by counseling a senator before his criminal trial. Boethius was caught and sentenced to death. He wrote this book while imprisoned waiting for his death sentence. It is a conversation he has with a lady named philosophy who is a figment of his imagination. As he wrestles with the concept that ignorance is bliss and he wouldn't be here if not for the convictions his intelligence came with, Lady Philosophy consoles him. She's supposed to represent intelligence and conviction.

John Wood on Leadership. I’m currently reading it. John Wood is a legendary college basketball coach for UCLA. He is one of the few to have had a perfect season (didn’t lose a game). In the book he teaches the fundamentals of leadership and how he applied that to his team he coached.
