My reason:

People are going to talk shit about you regardless, I'm sure this is a fact that you know.

I had people talking shit about me in highschool, sometimes I didn't find out until someone else told me. Like "Hey, so and so is talking about you in class".

Like little did I know I had a group of girls and guys talking shit about me in my 8th period class.

People, for the majority, ain't shit.

Also, for the people who believe in the rumors without even knowing you are just as shitty as the ones who spreads them. You wouldn't want to be thier friends anyways.

Despite of having rumors about me I always had friends that knew me for me and staysed with me.

Besides that, it's just better to not hear the bullshit people have to say about than to hear it.
