NO! Absolutely not. I don't need my boss keeping tabs on me outside of work, or knowing how I really feel about her or work, LOL.

No, I've always been told to keep my work life, and real life as separate as possible: less drama that way. I think my boss feels the same way as I know she is on facebook, yet she has not requested to be my friend, and the feeling is mutual. If she wants to know more about me outside of work, she can do like everyone else: just ask.

I've been on both sides of this. A few of my employees are connected as well as a former boss. I think if it's a goal to move up AND you keep your social media semi work friendly it's good. Your boss probably doesn't need to know that you got "soooo drunk and fell of of the stage at karaoke" etc etc. But if it's mostly family and funny memes etc it's fine, and it let's your boss get to know you as a person which may help you on your career paths.

I've only friended bosses after I've left the job. It's weird to think of bosses as social media friends. Plus I like to be unfiltered on social media and I'm heavily filtered at work. It'd be a shock to them.

I have been friends with one of my bosses on social media but that was only because we secretly started dating. It was years ago now but I’ve never been friends with any other bosses since then.

It depends on the boss. If this were my previous job, and I got a friend request from him, totally, cause he was really cool to hang out with. However, in my current job, my boss is so awkward and shady, I'd pretend I didn't see it lol.
