Good question. Albert Einstein realized the possibility of this in an experiment of an object being drawn to the center of mass versus and object being accelerated... he noted that it's probably what ever requires the least energy of the universe since that seems to be how the universe prefers to transfer energy.
Through logic and science we know that mass moves towards the center.. and gravity is when two masses are attracted to each other's center of gravity.
if you had a large disk the size of the earth and walked towards the edge, you'd notice that the further you got, the heavier you'd feel, until you couldn't walk anymore because you're potential energy is so much, and your gravity is so heavily attracted to the center that it takes much more effort to escape the pull of gravity.
The earth is not a large disc but a sphere which can be observed in full from the distance of the moon. the view of the surface of a sphere is increased based on the distance you are from it. The further you are, the more you can see. At firs this might seem insignificate when thinking about a basket ball, but when you think about the earth, even astronaughts are too close too it to see the earth without turning their head although the curveture can be observed. Once you get to about the distance of the moon you will see roughly 49% of the earth's surface in one gaze but also it'll be harder to see of course.
you can also observes earth's spherimetrical mass by either firing a cannon ball, 50 feet, then 100 feet, then 200 feet and watching it drop, once you do this enough you will eventually see that the drop will come back around the earth's surface and back to you (the speed required to do such is known as the escape velocity), you will also notice that airplanes who travel long distances around the world will travel north first before traveling around because the surface area of a sphere is reduced towards the poles much like a cone, while the equator is the largest distance. they will travel north and then fly around then go to their destination. There's tons of other ways to prove earth is round, like the light caused by the sun, the constilations, et cetera.
