Does laughing at your own jokes, make you seem stupid?

This is an interesting topic. I've heard of people being against it or pro.

Does the quality of the joke have anything to do with it?Does laughing at your own jokes, make you seem stupid??

  • I'm fine with someone smirking, but if you're laughing harder than the audience of your joke, then we have an issue. I'm a big fan of stand up comedy. It's my favorite form of entertainment. My brother is a comedian and I'm trying to be one myself. I don't ever laugh at my own jokes, though I do show I'm amused at others laughing

  • I usually feel like it displaces some of the impact of a joke when someone laughs at their own. But I've witnessed exceptions. There are few things more frustrating to me than not being able to share a great joke because I'm laughing too hard at the thought of it.

  • What do you call a monkey in a tree?
    The Branch Manager..., Loll
Half of the readers will laugh at that and the others were just looking round for something pornographic.
Nothing wrong with a laugh at the humourous and ridiculous things you say and not at the saddest things eh?

  • That is the biggest put off when someone tells a joke. Takes 90% of the steam out of the joke.

  • No. Case in point would be Dave Chappelle, i find him funny and he's forever laughing at his own jokes.

  • Good jokes are universally funny, but a person that constantly laughs at his own jokes is either crazy or just conceited.

    • I can agree a little with that. Back story. I used to bearly smile when I said jokes. It confused many people. I've had numerous people come to me and tell me that I'm real funy, but they weren't sure if I was joking or being serious.

    • It's part of the coping mechanism, (How everyone fits in) most people jump too quick to conclusions... most people have forgotten "how to/or to" ... ask questions and try to figure it out.

  • No it does not.

    • Mensa is faiding... forget about it?

    • Should we forget about it?

    • I know. No one gets my jokes because you have to know what I'm referring to for it to be funny. :(

  • Not at all. Sometimes you find something too funny not to laugh at, you can't help it.
