How do entertainers cope with the hurtful comments people post about them online?

How do entertainers (in general) cope with all the horrible things people say about them online?
Updates:
People are focusing too much on porn. This is entertainers in general, meaning actresses, models, musicians, adult film actors and anyone who puts themselves out there.

  • A few years ago, there was an article written about me, based on my being involved in politics. It started with a fact, then the author made up stuff to concoct a lie. It makes me angry when people lie about me. I became more discreet in my activities after that.

Celebrities are a bit different. Their income is directly related to popularity, and it doesn't matter whether that comes from good or bad publicity. There have been some celebrities that started false, bad rumors about themselves just to boost their income.

  • I think they just don't read it as much as one would think. Out of sight, out of mind. Nothing good comes out of reading mean comments anyway, it's not productive or helpful. So it's best to not read them at all.
I know some are just so used to it that they don't even care anymore. They've gotten thick skin after years and years of random people hating them. They've probably come to the insight that no matter what they do, someone will always hate them, so it's best to just do whatever they want anyways rather than try to please everyone.
I'm also guessing that some entertainers are really bad at coping, which might result in them ranting on twitter or some other outlet.

  • They usually don't read them to begin with. Good entertainers have a good grasp and feel for when their material is weak or strong. So they don't need to seek feedback elsewhere. Internet comments are usually very vague and few and far between are genuinely constructive. So it's not worth it looking through a sea of comments to find useful critiques.
They recognize you can't please everyone and the best thing for them is to improve and perform how they want to.

  • Just don't see feedback as negative.
If it isn't constructive, don't take it seriously. The world is filled with people who "feel" a certain way, but are unable to provide an insightful foundation underneath. You can't really dictate how someone should feel, or know if they're trolling or not. All you can do is ignore them, or have a laugh at it.

If its constructive, you can either ignore it, or do something with it. But that is still entirely your choice.

  • Well... I'll go against what others are saying and say that oftentimes they can't cope. Two great examples are Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus (albeit they are a different type of "entertainer"). Years of hate have turned Justin Bieber from a nice guy to a complete narcissist (as a defence mechanism). And Miley Cyrus... well... I don't even think we need to talk about that one!

  • They work on their shortcomings by working on the criticism they receive online. Constructive feedback is the only way for them to hone and polish their skills. As for the hurtful comments. And I think that they have developed a thick skin for the hate they receive. They don't care about it much. Haters will always be around, no matter how well you perform.

  • Ok so imagine you're an entertainer. You have a good amount of cash, friends, and family. Will I be enjoying my wealth, friends, and family or will I be online worrying about what people posted about me. If anything it's difficult to worry about what people post about you. You're probably busier than a lot of people and have so many distractions.

  • The money they make outweighs the negatives of the job depends on who you are as a person and don't care what others have to say and loves the SKRILLA!

Anything negative said or written on online is not worth the time to bother about it cuz its the Internet.

  • It’s probably a one in a million chance that celebrity is even going to see anyone’s comment out of the millions out there.

  • I imagine that entertainers learn to take in both the negative and positive feedback. Often the negative stuff is nonconstructive, so you can just toss it away.

  • I think it's the same way any person deals with hurtful comments. It requires a self-revelation that others' opinions of you doesn't dictate who you are.

  • They might have had the knowledge about these happenings from their start of the career itself.. else they won't be starring on pornographic scenes showing their identity

  • By completely fucking with their minds and shattering what they believe to be reality so they are no longer able to cope in their tiny little heckler world without reevaluating everything they believe inevitably tearing apart their own minds from the inside before we take them out to the farm

  • I recently read how to be a bawse, and lilly says that she wants to do what she loves to make her happy. Also, there must be something seriously wrong with the mean haters to talk to violent. Probably that they were never taught the language of nonviolent communication

  • People want to watch porn but hate on the people that act in porn films. That's like me saying I love opera but I hate the singers. I can't understand it. But anyways they're all rich and probably knew what was coming so I don't think the comments bother them

  • I'm sure all of that $$$$$$ helps to soften the blow. That and the fact that they usually have a team of PR people to help attract more positive attention than negative.
