I would contest to someone calling electronic music trash the same I would contest to someone calling metal music bad noise. First off, I’m not a big fan of most electronic music. I’m into rock, metal, and the like. However, I think electronic music has a lot of different subgenres/styles that would make it hard to make a blanket statement towards (trap, edm, house, etc.)
Now, the electronic songs I really like are few and far between, but I have found some. For instance:
You can find similar elements in some metal as well. For example:
Now, you may not be a metal fan, and that’s alright. Point was that electronic music takes a wide variety of stances, and the subgenres have elements that translate across genres too. There are def bad electronic songs, but I don’t think some bad apples define the whole bunch, so to speak.
Likewise, making a statement like that electronic music is 100% trash makes it seem more like an objective claim. Aka, it’s not opinion based like “I find it bad” but rather saying “it is bad.” Regarding this, I would say that people have different elements of music they gravitate towards. Some really pay attention to vocals, some like fast melodic parts, some need guitar in their songs— it varies. Making an objective blanket statement, therefore, is sort of limited in power I’d argue. People are different, but difference doesn’t mean anything bad.
