  • As someone who deals in prose day in day out, I have to admit: poetry confuses me. I feel like some writers have the "gift" of poetry, and then there are people like me, to whom poetry might as well be Advanced Quantum Physics.

  • Yes, today I wrote this:

Society is the disease that everybody we know has,

    more common than the cold

    less damaging to the bold

making sheep out of the individual,

taking leaps over a slumbering throng

    We sing the same tunes

for an inch of feeling like we belong

Making waves like a pebble in the ocean,

    we tell our conscience often

    “Begone”,

forgetting ourselves in the shades of grey

as though we see the measure of a man

through a caricature of that which resides

    most strong

Society is the disease most terminal and

    hardly easy enough to cure,

    our treatment plans most facile,

    the most personalized of things

    to endure

Some reach for bottles of liquor, drinking to

    forget

    yesterday,

making more mistakes to put in the past

    Seeking a drunken stupor

    they fight to ensure

    though it never lasts

Others for the ones with pills

    to cleanse their inner sadness

    so intimate and vast

    Those clung to religion

    use God to right their

    righteous wrongs

    The artist manage this condition

    by depicting their rights,

    exposing what wrongs

    Criminals,

    the most notorious

of those most vicious in lashing out,

view victims in the lenses of

    innocence

    and security

    with two eyes pursuing doubt

Politicians and corporate breaks bread with the annals of clout

though they are criminals in their own right

    white collars against the blue

    tend to win out

The lineage of barbarians who owned the land in the past

preceding us with a brutality secured order

molding the wounds they inflict in the

    confines of their caste

    The castes, the crosses, the kegs, the dregs, the insane, the creative, & the predators;

by hook or crook, all shook alike in night & day,

our disease is best related by the escape of our way.

    • * and feel the warm[est] spring breeze.

Haiku is much harder in English alphabet.

    • In Hiragana and Katakana, one character = one syllable.

    • As for the question, I don't really like poetry so much but I like to kind of write it sarcastically as a sort of joke. I made this quick one for some other question about stone skipping:

      The pebble pranced-danced over water,
hop-popped with a sense of life,
      and skipped-dipped into the sea,
      never to ever again.

  • I write poetry sometimes. When I'm in the mood. I wrote dozens of haiku years ago. Its actually a good way to learn to be concise.

  • It's not a poem,
It's more like a call for help,
In my mind pops a caption
And it's gonna be our subject of discussion
