Tell that to the lithium mines
More sustainable long term than the carbon emissions from combustion motors though, and this is the thing that matters most currently. Water pollution doesn't matter if ocean acidification and acid rain occurs. I don't have a car currently though and can deal with relying on public transport for now which helps minimise collective impact.

Didn't consider that, fair point. Not sure how the amount of emissions produced during mining would compare to the amount of saved emissions though. And regular cars materials are also obtained through hydrocarbon based fuel though. So overall you'd expect a reduced impact but I don't have the stats to confirm or deny this.
