Real rap vs mumble rap is just no contest. The lyrical quality usually isn’t there anymore, I think it’s become more about the overall vibe of a song. I can appreciate some of the new stuff for what it is, but none of it holds a candle to the Golden Age of rap that I grew up in.

Yes it has, a lot of the new guys are untalented. Yet that's what seems to attract the young kids.
Why think about lyrics when you can just string together the same couple of words or even make up your own words? Then just put a catchy beat behind it and call it a day.
I feel like a lot of the new rap is purely just the beat. You can have anyone rap about whatever nonsense you want. If the beat is catchy that's all that matters.

I prefer the old school 80s hip hop rap. That was where going to battle was using your lyrics and rhymes to go to war. Not that crap on the airwaves today about drive-bys, calling everyone the "N" word and drinking lean.

Yes, it did. It went from addressing real issues to offending women, glamorizing drugs and showing off money. I prefer old school rap, it had meaning.
I wouldn't generally look to rap for advice on equality lol.
But even though rap seems more experimental these days, there's also a lot of it that is just super unimaginative and melodically dull. It's strange that rap has become more melodic, only for the melodies to be so bad. Much of it sounds like some drunk homeless man outside your apartment at 4 a. m. I'm thinking guys like Post Malone, etc.

I personally think rap has moved toward worse lyrics but there are still some really good songs. I want shootout this one rapper but I dont remember his name or the songs name. The quick version is a story of two families growing up and can't see because they are blinded by race. It might of been called dont want to sound racist. It was really good and he did an awesome job capturing the different sentiments of these families.

Yeah Tupac had decent lyrics but he also had issues - but better than the multi coloured frown on the right

that Gucci song has good beats tho. There’s also good rap that does come out today, and it’s not fair to compare it to Tupac. Tupac is a legend in hip hop/rap. That’s like comparing parmesan cheese in a container to parmigiano reggiano.
