Why do western people only think that Indian movies are only from Bollywood?

Manab
It's not. Bollywood is a Mumbai city-based industry and is mostly for Hindi-speaking people. However, India has more than 22 major languages and there are movie industries in southern and eastern India too.
Generic eastern Indian movies made by Bengali-speaking people are not like Bollywood. No cliche song or dance, or stalking a girl. Some of the Bengali directors are actually the best in India and other countries.
Satyajit Ray was an oscar-winning Bengali director and was a close friend of Sir Arthur C Clarke. Spielberg plagiarised his script and made ET, one of the most famous sci-fi movies back then. Other Bengali directors like Mrinal Sen or Rittik Ghatak won the highest honor of France and Russia for literature.
